My name is Alex but I work under the name Maple Inkk.
My work focuses on animals and making art of animals that are represented less frequently in media. The process starts with quickly drawing animals from life where possible and taking lots of reference photos to get an understanding of the animal and how they move. Once the ink drawing is finished, I scan it into my laptop and then move it over to my iPad where I colour it digitally. Colouring it digitally lets me zoom into all of the small details and colour them exactly as I want. It also allows me to get perfectly flat colours.
I wanted to create a style where I can combine traditional and digital art. I’ve always preferred drawing traditionally but there are some things that can’t be achieved without digital means. The combination of the two let’s me create striking illustrations and achieve what I want.
