My paintings are my way of seeing and although representational they are often stylised or abstracted to a degree and I certainly take great liberty with the colours I choose (hence –anything but grey!) I am aiming not for realism but for capturing mood and atmosphere.
My art is mixed media built up from interesting layers of collage and acrylic and are often mistaken for oils.
The aim is to create a painting that people can live with and enjoy for a long time.
I live in Belper which is part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site and I am surrounded by the subjects that really excite me and have a sense of history, bleak landscapes scarred by industry with rolling skies.
I love the moods of nature and the weather and seasons. I have made this locality the focus of my work.
My work has been exhibited in hundreds of local, national and international shows, and I enjoy curating my own solo exhibitions.
I love working closely with clients on commissions to produce truly unique pieces.
My art has regularly been featured in newspapers and national magazines and has been discussed on both TV and radio.
