My painting work is inspired by the urban environment I discovered as a student in Leicester.
There was something about the colours and textures of the various surfaces left upon buildings in the city from old posters, stickers and signs that I found fascinating.
Zooming in on my photos of these discoveries to almost pixelate them allowed me to study the vibrant range of colours and array of textures.
I translated this into painting using the colours from my photos and creating texture with various materials such as plaster, paper and found items.
I also applied this method of close up composition and selective colour in my digital imagery based on the surface of the skin.
In both cases I wanted to distort the image of something so mundane, familiar and 'everyday' to us and make it bright and intriguing to capture the curiosity of the viewer.
