I have a degree in Illustration from the University of Derby and I am a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists.
My inspiration is always from nature, as I think it has such a universal power to soothe and inspire.
I think a lot of people find it harder and harder to switch off from our modern world and I hope my paintings can serve as tools to enable escapism.
I don’t rely on reference throughout the painting process and I find some fantastical images from my imagination creep in to the paintings.
Making art is very therapeutic to me and I am thrilled that once the piece is finished it has the ability to be therapeutic to other viewers too.
I use water-based acrylic paint and inks and always enjoy experimenting with colour combinations and mark making throughout the painting process.
My work is abstract and expressionist in style as I feel it captures the movement and light in nature more effectively.
The painting’s mark making can be calm or violent but my overall goal is to produce a productive and positive feeling in the viewer.
